Steve & Nicole’s Spring Newsletter

A little bit of everything. From design to books and local events; here’s what’s exciting us this month!

Books We Are Reading

Steve: Has been slacking lately…so here’s everything Nicole’s read in the past month.

Nicole: Quick rundown of some enjoyable recent reads, The Rachel Incident by Caroline O'Donoghue: a funny (painful at times) coming of age story. Great read! Among the Bros by Max Marshall: a disturbing well told story detailing fraternity life and a multi-million-dollar drug ring. It’s a captivating (and often shocking) look at the never ending party and lack of consequences for this elite group. Born to Shine by Kendra Scott: after wandering into her shop in Charleston (and buying earrings), I came across her book and figured I’d check it out. What an enjoyable memoir highlighting these themes in her life - the importance of strong female relationships, shattering the idea of perfection, philanthropy, and how a good life doesn’t mean a perfect one. The Idea of You by Robinne Lee - newly made into a movie, this book tells a great (and very spicy!) love story. Highly recommend. One in a Millennial by Kate Kennedy: a relatable, funny, lighthearted recount of the author’s younger years and how her millennial experience shaped her identity; and how she chooses to celebrate and own it even if society can sometimes be hyper-critical of the generation. LIV & Let Die by Alan Shipnuck - a detailed (and gossipy) dive into LIV’s controversial entry into the golf world. A little long but very well researched and enjoyable.

Inspire

For some spring recipe inspiration and this list of 35 Memorial Day side dishes from Food52.

This table decoration from a favorite Italian food-writer’s birthday dinner.

This Spanish Colonial Revival Home is playful, colorful, and has so much personality. The outdoor space (photographed below) isn’t too shabby either.
David Lebovitz’s Newsletters read like a story and we always learn something new - In France, bakers don’t automatically add vanilla to desserts and if one does, vanilla will be added to the name of the dessert.

Local Happenings

Rooftop dining around Boston and other fun things to do.

Get out for a picnic around Boston this weekend! We’re partial to Castle Island. Pro tip: there are lots of airplane sightings for your plane-obsessed little ones.

This helpful CSA Guide highlighting 24 local options; from monthly meat-only shares to weekly vegetable boxes to full local grocery ordering, there’s a CSA for every budget and every schedule.

Supper Subscription from Flour Bakery…yum! And join the waitlist for Bar Mezzana’s Dinner Club. Are these monthly restaurant dinner subscriptions a thing now? We’re into it!
