Books We Are Reading

Steve: A book I read earlier in the year by Cameron Hanes has really stuck with me. Endure is an auto-biography of Cameron’s life in hunting and endurance sports. His motto is “keep hammering” and that was a common theme of many scenarios in his life. Cameron has been on the Joe Rogan podcast many times and is a close fiend of Joe’s and the reason Joe hunts. Cameron is known to be the world’s best bow hunter and if you have time to watch a few YouTube videos you will find some amazing clips of Cameron hunting huge Elk. If you don’t want to read the book I highly recommend listening to Cameron on Joe Rogan.

Nicole: If you’re looking for a beach read this summer, you must pick up Emily Henry’s newest novel, Happy Place. It’s told in dual timelines (which I love!); the current one following a tight-knit group of friends as they retreat to Maine for their annual trip and the other telling the story of how the two main characters fall in love. The story unfolds to be about so much more than just the couple and you really grow to love each member of the ensemble cast.

The 2023 James Beard Award winners have been announced and Rachel Miller of Nightshade Noodle Bar in Lynn, MA, was named in the Outstanding Chef category. Adding it to our summer to do list!

After enjoying the most amazing peach at a friend’s house last summer, we knew we wanted to order some of our own! Don’t miss out on The Peach Truck. Time is running out!

This Laguna Beach jewel box packs so much style and character in such a small footprint. It’s light and airy, inviting and cozy. We would love to check out this special home!

Upcoming Events (all food-related this month!)

Newton favorite, Thistle & Leek, is partnering with Allandale Farm to host a farm dinner to celebrate the late summer bounty on Wednesday, August 30th. With four courses and wine pairings from Ruby Wines, this is sure to be a fun night! Sign up before tickets are gone.

Pies & Pints Adult Cooking Class at Powisset Farm - craft beer (and wine) and wood fired pizza! A hands-on outdoor cooking class with Chef  Thi using Powisset’s outdoor brick oven. Next class is September 6th!

Mango Lassi Pie…don’t miss out on summer special at Petsi Pie. You can find Petsi Pies at these local shops. Volante Farms is our go to! Or if you’re a member of Walden Local you can add pie to your order through their special holiday shares.

White Lion Baking Company, a paleo, gluten-free, grain-free bakery, is expanding its retail presence to Waban! The 95 Wyman Street location in Newton is now open.
